Quick Facts
Skin Lesion Removal at a Glance
Our Approach
Our Skin Lesion Removal Approach
At The One Clinic, we follow a structured three-stage approach , ensuring every patient receives safe, accurate, and personalised lesion removal with expert aftercare.
Clinical Assessment
Every lesion is examined by a GMC-registered doctor before any procedure. We assess the lesion type, consider your medical history, and confirm it is suitable for in-clinic removal.
Tailored Removal Technique
We select the most appropriate removal method for your lesion , surgical excision with closure, shave excision, punch biopsy, or electrocautery , based on lesion type, size, and location.
Wound Care & Follow-up
Post-procedure wound dressing and written aftercare guidance are provided. Stitches are removed at a follow-up appointment, and histology results are communicated promptly.
Our Standard of Care
Every step , from assessment to aftercare , is carried out by a qualified GMC-registered doctor, ensuring the highest standards of clinical safety and patient experience throughout your treatment journey.
What to Expect
Your Treatment Journey
Consultation & Assessment
A thorough clinical review of your skin lesion, including size, site, and appearance. Your GMC-registered doctor will confirm suitability and explain all available options.
Removal Procedure
Local anaesthetic is applied to ensure complete comfort. Your doctor then uses the most appropriate technique , surgical excision, shave excision, or electrocautery , to remove the lesion cleanly.
Wound Care
The wound is dressed carefully after removal. You will receive clear written aftercare instructions and, where appropriate, the lesion is sent for histological analysis.
Healing & Review
Stitches (where placed) are removed at 7 to 14 days. Histology results are typically available within 2 weeks. A follow-up review ensures your healing is progressing well.

The Science Behind Skin Lesion Removal
Skin lesion removal at The One Clinic uses evidence-based surgical techniques chosen specifically for each lesion. Surgical excision involves cutting out the lesion with a clear margin and closing the wound with fine sutures, making it ideal for moles, cysts, and lipomas. Shave excision removes raised lesions flush with the skin surface without deep stitches, while punch biopsy provides a cylindrical tissue sample for lesions requiring histological assessment.
Electrocautery uses controlled electrical current to precisely destroy superficial lesions such as skin tags and small warts with minimal bleeding. The technique selected depends on the lesion type, size, depth, and location, ensuring the most accurate removal with the best cosmetic outcome. All procedures are performed under local anaesthetic for your comfort.
Techniques We Use

Post-Treatment
What to Expect After Removal
Healing Timeline
Keep the wound dry for the first 48 hours. Most wounds heal well within 1 to 2 weeks. Stitches (where placed) are removed at a follow-up appointment 7 to 14 days after the procedure.
If tissue was sent for histology, results are typically available within 2 weeks. Scarring continues to fade and improve over the following 3 to 6 months.
Side Effects
Minor surgical lesion removal is generally very well tolerated. Expected post-procedure effects include:
- Mild soreness or tenderness around the wound
- Minor swelling or bruising in the first 24 to 48 hours
- A small scab forming as the wound heals
These effects are temporary and typically resolve within a few days. Contact the clinic if you notice signs of infection or unexpected bleeding.
Aftercare Tips
- Keep the wound dry for the first 48 hours
- Avoid strenuous activity for 5 to 7 days
- Do not pick or scratch the healing wound
- Apply SPF 50 to the area once healed to minimise scar visibility

Frequently Asked Questions
We remove a wide range of benign skin lesions including moles, sebaceous cysts, lipomas, skin tags, dermatofibromas, warts, verrucae, and seborrhoeic keratoses. Every lesion is assessed by a doctor before treatment to confirm suitability and rule out anything requiring specialist referral.
The area is numbed with a local anaesthetic before the procedure, so you should feel minimal discomfort during removal. Some mild tenderness around the wound is normal in the days following treatment as the area heals.
Some degree of scarring is inevitable after any surgical procedure, but our doctors use precision techniques to minimise this. Scar appearance improves significantly over 3 to 6 months. The final scar is typically much less noticeable than the original lesion.
No referral is needed. You can book directly with The One Clinic. A full clinical assessment is included at your appointment before any procedure is carried out.
If the removed tissue is sent for histological analysis, results are typically available within 2 weeks. We will contact you directly with the results and explain any findings clearly.
